Breast

We offer a range of female and male cosmetic surgery options.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is the rebuilding of a breast so as to construct a natural-looking breast.

Reconstruction of the breast if often required for:
  • asymmetric or abnormal development of the breasts,
  • breast deformity caused by trauma or burns
  • post-mastectomy for breast cancer

There is a variety of procedures available to reconstruct the breast mound, areola and nipple. It can involve the use of a patent’s own tissues or prostheses such as tissue expanders and breast implants. Often breast surgery may involve more than one procedure with the initial operation designed to establish a breast shape and a second procedure to create a nipple and possibly to correct residual scars and shape. Occasional the other breast may be operated on to lift it or alter its size in order to match the reconstructed breast.

Following mastectomy for breast malignancy, woman have the option of an immediate reconstruction or delaying the reconstruction until after the completion of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Our surgeons will discuss the reconstructive options available as each one has advantages and disadvantages. We can also work with your breast surgeon to co-ordinate and expedite appropriate treatment and reconstruction in a timely manner.

Cosmetic Breast Reduction

Breast reduction provides patients with relief from the physical symptoms caused by the excessive weight of large breasts. Breast reduction can also improve the size and shape of your breasts and correct breast symmetry when there is a significant difference in size between each breast. Following breast reduction, your breasts will be more proportional to the rest of your body, and clothes will fit better.

The procedure is performed under a general anaesthetic and it involves removing excess breast tissue volume and skin, making your breasts smaller and firmer. The areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) may be reduced and repositioned. You can usually return to work within 2-4 weeks and return to more strenuous exercise after 6 weeks. It is common to wear a supportive sports bra for a few weeks after your surgery to ensure good healing and breast shape.

Cosmetic Breast Lift

Breast lift surgery or mastopexy is ideal for patients who are generally satisfied with the size of their breasts but are unhappy with the shape and droopiness of their breasts. In many women, loss of skin elasticity, gravity, weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding results in their breasts losing their shape and firmness. A breast lift removes excess skin to raise, reshape and firm your breasts, resulting in a more youthful breast contour. The areolas (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipples) are also repositioned. If desired, implants may be inserted in conjunction with a breast lift to increase breast volume.

Cosmetic Breast Implants

Breast enlargement, also referred to as breast augmentation, is a surgical procedure that aims to enhance the size and shape of the breast. It involves surgical placement of an implant behind each breast to increase its volume and enhance its shape. The implant may be placed above or below the muscle depending on a number of variables. A variety of implant types and shapes are available each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You surgeon will help you select which option is right for you.

Following breast enlargement, it may be easier to find clothing that fits you well, and you may feel more confident about your appearance. If you are considering breast enlargement, we want you to be thoroughly informed about the procedure.

Male Breast Surgery

When men have excessive breast tissue on men is call gynecomastia. It can affect 30% of men, so it is surprisingly common. The causes of gynecomastia remain uncertain, although it has generally been attributed to an imbalance of sex hormones or the tissue responsiveness to them. However, it may occasionally be due to an underlying medical problems or certain drugs

Breast prominence can result from an excess of breast tissue, chest fat or skin, and is typically a combination of all three. A variety of treatment option exists and selection of the most appropriate technique is dependant upon the volume and skin excess. The excess fat in smaller male breasts may be removed by liposuction alone. For larger volumes a small surgical incision is required to remove the excess tissue. For very large breasts volume and skin may need to be excised. Your surgeon will be able to make a full assessment and recommend the most appropriate treatment option for you.

Normally, there is a high level of patient satisfaction with reduction of male breasts. Therefore, if your expectations are realistic the chances are good that you will be very satisfied with the procedure and your new look.
